Can Government Fix Our Economy

October 21st 2008 01:52
The government is pumping a lot of money to try and correct things quickly. It’s helping a little bit. More than anything, it’s creating a perception that it’s a good thing. You don’t see the market climbing or the housing prices rising again. The stock market is still not seeing large jumps. Things are becoming more stable but it will take more time before we reach the end of this.

We turn to politicians and expect them to come up with a quick fix when things don’t go the way we want. No matter what they tell you, no one politician can really do a lot to fix the economy. Not a Democrat or a Republican.

What’s important is what they will do to keep problems like this from happening again. Things like regulating the financial industry will have a bigger impact overall since it can help to avoid things like predatory lending practices.

While the economy is on everyone’s minds right now it makes it difficult to see past that and look at what stand politicians take on other issues. Don’t let yourself get stuck on this one track or you will miss so much more. In this election, look to the other things that have been important to you before. Consider the policies on both candidates and make an educated choice on who will be the best President of the United States.

Nicely said, Jen. Remember, though, that the current financial crisis was brought on incrementally, first during the Carter presidency, enlarged during the Clinton years, and was all but unstoppable when Pres. Bush and John McCain tried to issue warnings about what would happen. Looking to the same congress that caused the problem to find a cure isn't the best idea we've ever had. It didn't happen overnight and the cure won't be that quick, either.

I agree. I just don't like hearing from people that they expert the next President to fix the problem. It is much deeper than that and requires a more complex solution.

Given time and no new taxes, I think the economy will right itself. That being said, raising taxes will not erase the problems and push us into prosperity. Obama has no concept of finances or business. He would be the worst nightmare Wall St. could imagine. (Not to mention the rest of us!)
