Pay Your Medical Bills On Time
July 2nd 2008 00:38
You may wonder what I’m talking about with this one. After all, medical bills may not be your biggest concern. As I sit here taking my generic Vicodin (I broke my foot earlier this week), it occurs to me that people don’t realize the consequences of not paying your medical bills.
It’s not good. Those medical bills will end up with a collections agency who will then hound you for the money. It can get ugly and leave your credit history in shreds.
I do have medical insurance—yeah—so when I went to the emergency room for my foot, I knew I would only have to pay the co-pay. What surprised me was when they asked for that money before they treated me. Ok, they did the general assessment, but before the doctor saw me, they had my personal check for the co-pay. I guess hospitals are used to people “forgetting” to pay. Who knows? All I know is that I have seen too many people not pay their medical bills – for various reasons—and pay for it later when they were harassed by the collections people.
