Dreaming of the Big Bucks

October 7th 2008 00:21
Wow, what a drop in the stock market we’re seeing. For the first time in four years, we have dropped below 10,000. I remember the days when we hit 10,000 and we were hearing about the records being set. Now they are even saying that it could be another year before we see significant improvements in the economy.

I pulled my money back a few months ago and moved it into safer investments. Now I’m seeing this as being the perfect time to get back in. Sure it may go a little lower, but I’m thinking it will definitely go back up in the long term and I as a long term investor I have time to wait. Short term investors like my in-laws are sticking with their CD’s and that works too.

In this economy, you can’t expect to get rich like we did for so many years. However, the best advice you always hear is buy low and sell high. I consider this to be a good time to jump back in.

I've never had a whole lot of confidence in investing, Jen, having seen things go south for others. Real estate used to be the major investment but fell from grace, except for those of us who own a few properties and are renting them out. When the payments were low and the prices down, it was (and astill is a great investment). The Democrats killed the market with their sub-prime crappola, true. But it will come back, most likely, if Obama doesn't win next month. I'm hanging on because my renters need a place to live and my rents aren't too high. But the properties are being paid for, every month. I hear that gold and silver are also good, steady investments.

Thanks for the Comment S.L. You are right about investing, it can be a rocky road. But this is the time when we need to start showing more consumer confidence. As long as we continue to show doubt in the system, we will continue to see these huge drops. The recent bailout (although questionable because of some of the reasons we are in this mess) will eventually help to boost our economy. The delays in getting it approved (because we had to add concessions) and allegations of questionable spending by companies after they were bailed out (AIG party) don't help.

I have a new way of growing my wealth, Jen, and wonder what you think about it. It's a multi-level marketing company that sells Goji berry products (juice, energy drinks and vitamins). Manda Spring wrote about it on her blog (medicinal nature) and got me interested. The product seems to be really good and selling it is supposed to be as easy as telling people about it. I met a retired man recently who earns over $5,000 a month with it and he doesn't even have a computer! Check it out and let me know what you think.
